Enjoy your experience to the full with RC racing clubs

Friday, February 26th, 2010

It does not matter whether you enjoy assembling your own RC cars or prefer to buy Ready To Run versions, if you are part of the RC experience, you should consider racing your cars against others to make the experience even more enjoyable. There are RC racing clubs up and down the country, catering to every level of ability and which organise regular events.

Just by attending these events and engaging in competition you are getting to know what the hobby is all about. Some people like to test their driving ability against the very best, by making their own nitro RC car from a kit, while others are less competitive and prefer to race for fun. Whichever type of RC car owner you are, getting involved with a racing club can enhance your RC experience.

As we’ve said before, there are many ways you can find out about your local RC club; searching online may be the best way for you to get in touch and find out when the next meet up is. By all means learn how to control your car on your own, but don’t let that stop you enjoying RC cars to the full – get out there and race against others!

Should I buy an electric or nitro model?

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

This is one of the most important questions to ask when it comes to choosing an RC car. The answer will depend on your experience and skill level to a great extent, as beginners are advised against opting for a nitro RC car until they are fully familiar with the workings of remote control cars.

Many beginners tend to overlook this question and plump for the model which looks best and just takes their fancy. However, the workings of these two types of RC cars are completely different. Electric RC cars are usually not as fast as their nitro counterparts, but require a lot less in the way of maintenance.

With the engine used in nitro RC cars, you will need to learn about its workings and how to fix it if something goes wrong. Therefore, you will require a lot of patience when running one of these models. With electric cars, on the other hand, these are much simpler and all you have to do is charge the batteries and you are away.

If you just want to get your new RC car out of the box with the minimum of fuss, just go with an electric RC car. If you are experienced with these cars and looking for a new challenge, nitro RC cars may be for you.

These RC cars are not toys

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

Don’t get confused. The remote control cars you buy from an online hobby store are completely different from the car models you would buy from a toy shop. This is because both electric and nitro RC cars are not to be mistaken for toys and are not suitable for use by anyone who is under the age of 15, unless they are being supervised by an adult.

Hobby grade RC cars

The RC car models sold by most toy stores are merely ‘toy grade’ and can be used by almost anyone, of any age. There may be some restrictions for those containing small parts, when used by very small children, but on the whole, they are safe for general use. Then there are ‘hobby grade’ RC cars.

The cars sold by hobby shops are for use by enthusiasts and those willing to put time and effort into perfecting their skills. A number of these cars can still be used by beginners, but most of them will take some time to master fully.

The top quality electric and nitro RC cars are used by experienced racers and professionals because of the durability and performance they offer. These hobby grade RC cars are built to last longer than any toy RC car would.

Ordering RC cars online

Sunday, February 21st, 2010

Buying your new RC car model has never been easier. In the past, you had to physically visit your local hobby shop to browse through the catalogue of cars on offer. Nowadays, you can benefit from an online service where the car, plus a variety of accessories, can be ordered and delivered right to your door, in no time at all.

With online shopping you can still get the same level of personal service, by calling or emailing the online stockist, to get information and advice about the cars for sale. You can still browse through a large range of products and select the right model of car for you.

When buying online, you can even benefit from reduced pricing as there are fewer overheads when selling online, with the savings brought to you – the consumer. Also, another key benefit is that, with some reputable sellers, you can make use of free delivery as well as same day dispatch, plus other delivery services are available if you wish to have the item(s) in your grasp sooner.

Therefore, with the many benefits of choosing and buying your RC car and hobby products online, there really is no need to shop elsewhere.

How to purchase your first RC car

Saturday, February 20th, 2010

If you are new to the hobby of RC cars then it is good to get as much relevant advice as possible. However, with the wealth of information available on the internet these days, this can sometimes be confusing and can perplex you even more. Therefore, it is important to get advice on buying your first RC car from the right sources.

If you take a look at the number of hobby stores online you will find there are many situated in the UK, and maybe even your local area. The store owners and staff are usually keen enthusiasts themselves and can help to point you towards a good beginner model. Also, if you take a look at their product offerings, they will break down the car models into various categories.

As you are just starting out, make sure you steer clear of the more complex and difficult to master nitro models and stick to a Ready To Run (RTR) electric remote control car model. You should be able to find a beginner model made to a scale you can handle, which includes all the parts you will need to get acquainted with remote control cars.

Running in a new engine

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

We have covered this subject before on the website and actually provide a guide on how and why you should do this entitled ‘How to run in a New Engine’. The reason why we are covering this topic again is just to reiterate just how important it is to break in a new engine with RC cars!

If you want to make sure that your engine has a long life and will perform to its optimum level, then you need to take heed of these instructions. If you don’t then you will almost certainly reduce the life and performance ceiling of the car’s engine. The guide can also be used in conjunction with ‘How to start a Nitro Engine’ to get your new RC car working as it should.

One of the main tips you will need to bear in mind is to be persistent when doing this. If you have followed the above-mentioned guides and yet it still doesn’t appear to be running as it should, then just keep persevering with it and eventually you will be left with a smooth running engine. All the effort you have put in will be worth it in the end.

Buying accessories for your RC car

Friday, February 12th, 2010

When you buy your RC car, the chances are you will need to get some additional accessories for the car at some point. Most electric models usually require things like a battery pack and charger, if these are not supplied with the RC car. There are also a number of other accessories to buy which can certainly come in useful, especially if you have a nitro car, such as radio gear and an engine.

Tools to install upgrades on your car

From time to time you may need to make repairs or install upgrades to your RC car. Therefore, tools like a soldering iron and electric drill can come in handy.

Nitro models

If you have a nitro model, you will certainly need to invest in a glow plug heater to get it started, not to mention a supply of fuel for the engine. You will still need batteries or a rechargeable battery pack for the onboard electronics and the transmitter.

Ready To Run Cars

Even RTR cars may still need spare parts from time to time and a screwdriver and tool kit can help to tighten up any loose parts.

There is a huge range of accessories on the market with RC cars, so take a look out and make sure you have everything you need to enjoy your hobby to the max.
